Frequently Asked Questions

Must I be completely undressed?  Undress to your level of comfort. For most people, that means they will leave underwear on.  When working orthopedic massage, we often suggest bike shorts and workout bra be worn for ease of stretching.
Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?  The therapist will step out of the room and knock before reentering so you have complete privacy.
Will I be covered during the session?  A sheet or towel is used to cover all areas not being worked on.  AT ALL TIMES, SENSITIVE AREAS WILL REMAIN COVERED.  This applies to the breasts for women and the groin and gluteal cleft for all sexes.  *With Written permission, during MLD, coverings may be reduced to work above or beneath the breast tissue in the case of breast cancer with lymph node removal.
What parts of my body will be massaged?  All body parts, with the exception of nipples, and male or female genitalia, can receive massage.  This is NOT an erotic massage and any person soliciting for sex of any sort will be ejected immediately and a report will be filed with law enforcement.
What will the massage or bodywork feel like?  Depending on the modality, it may feel soothing, or stretching or pressure which can be lighter or deeper.  Communication takes place throughout so that you remain comfortable but it may be a bit of discomfort temporarily in order to affect the musculature to the desired results.
How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?  There may be some "post-workout" type of soreness up to 4 days after a treatment.  This usually lessens after a session or two as your body becomes conditioned.  Immediately following a spa-like massage, you may experience a bit of dizziness or lightheadedness.  This usually dissipates after drinking water and sitting for a few moments.  In a few days, you may notice easier motions - increased mobility and range of movement, less pain in everyday activities or walking or a general sense of calm.
Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?  There are certain conditions that may require caution or modification.  Rarely is massage contraindicated completely.  That is why we take a thorough medical history before your initial session. On occasion, a medical doctor's approval may be requested.
